What the engine does with your PDF
- Reads the position of every character and rebuilds the reading order, including multi-column pages.
- Joins lines back into paragraphs and rejoins words hyphenated at the end of a line.
- Removes running headers, footers and page numbers that repeat across pages.
- Turns footnotes into linked notes and builds chapters from the PDF's outline or its headings.
- Writes an EPUB 3 file; the EPUBs of our public benchmark are validated with EPUBCheck.
What works today and what doesn't
- Works: PDFs with selectable text, in one, two or three columns, with headings, images and footnotes.
- Not yet: scanned PDFs (OCR comes later, as a separate option).
- May need review: complex tables, formulas and fixed-layout books such as comics or picture books.

Is it free?
Every file gets a free sample of up to 5 pages before you pay anything, so you can judge the result on your own book. The Free plan converts up to 100 pages a month; Pro and Business convert more.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Not yet. EpubCC starts with PDFs that have selectable text. Scanned books need OCR, which comes later as a separate option and will never be sold as perfectly accurate.
Should I use Calibre instead?
If your PDF is a simple single-column text, Calibre's free converter may be enough. EpubCC is for the hard cases: broken paragraphs, repeated headers and page numbers, footnotes, columns and chapters.
Will the EPUB be perfect?
No converter can promise that, and we don't. When the engine detects problems (unreadable glyphs, doubtful reading order) it shows a warning instead of hiding it, and the sample shows you the hard parts before you pay.
What happens to my file?
Your PDF is deleted as soon as the whole book is converted, or 2 hours after its last conversion. The EPUB is deleted 1 hour after your first download, or 24 hours after it's ready. Files are never published, and never used for benchmarks or training without your explicit permission.
