EPUBCheck RSC-025: informative parser error

Updated:

EPUBCheck RSC-025 is a usage message: “Informative parsing error: ….” The parser reported an informative parsing error about a file. It is a usage message, shown only with -u, so EPUBCheck does not count it against the EPUB; the text after the colon is the parser's description.

The official message

Informative parsing error: %1$s

Default severity
Usage. Informative only and hidden by default: it appears when EPUBCheck runs with -u (--usage). It does not make the EPUB invalid.
EPUBCheck version
5.4.0

%1$s, %2$s… are filled in with the file, value or element EPUBCheck found.

Typical causes

  • Problems the parser reports in a context where EPUBCheck treats them as information only.
  • Notes from the underlying parser that EPUBCheck passes through.

How to fix it

  1. Read the text after the colon, with the file, line and column.
  2. If it describes a real mistake in your markup, fix it: other tools may be stricter.
  3. Validate again without -u to be sure no error remains.

When it's not this

Parsing errors that make the EPUB invalid are reported as RSC-005 or the fatal RSC-016.
