EPUBCheck OPF-096b: non-linear page maybe hidden
Updated:
EPUBCheck OPF-096b is a usage message: “No hyperlink was found to non-linear document "…", please check that it can be reached from scripted content.” A non-linear document has no hyperlink pointing to it, and the book contains scripts. A script might provide the link at run time, so EPUBCheck only reports a usage note (shown with -u).
The official message
No hyperlink was found to non-linear document "%1$s", please check that it can be reached from scripted content.
- Default severity
- Usage. Informative only and hidden by default: it appears when EPUBCheck runs with -u (--usage). It does not make the EPUB invalid.
- EPUBCheck version
- 5.4.0
%1$s, %2$s… are filled in with the file, value or element EPUBCheck found.
Typical causes
- A scripted menu or quiz that opens the document, which EPUBCheck cannot see.
- A non-linear note or appendix that really has no link, in a book that happens to have scripts.
- The link was removed while editing.
How to fix it
- Check whether a script really opens the document EPUBCheck names.
- If it does not, add a normal link from the text or the navigation document.
- Or remove linear="no" from its itemref so it is read in order.
When it's not this
Without scripts, the same situation is the error OPF-096.
