# EPUBCheck OPF-067: file in link and manifest, how to fix it

Source: https://epubcc.com/epubcheck/opf-067/ (updated 2026-11-04)

EPUBCheck OPF-067 is an error message: “The resource "…" must not be listed both as a "link" element in the package metadata and as a manifest item.” The same resource is listed both as a link in the metadata and as a manifest item. EPUB treats linked records and publication resources differently, so a file must be one or the other.

- Official message (EPUBCheck 5.4.0): The resource "%1$s" must not be listed both as a "link" element in the package metadata and as a manifest item.
- Default severity: Error

## Typical causes

- A metadata record (such as an ONIX file) linked with link and also added to the manifest.
- A tool that adds every file in the folder to the manifest.
- A link added later for a file that was already declared.

## How to fix it

1. Read the file name EPUBCheck quotes.
2. Decide: if the file is part of the publication (used by the content or the spine), keep the manifest item and remove the link.
3. If it is only an external record about the book, keep the link and remove the manifest item.

## When it's not this

If a local link simply lacks its media type, that is OPF-093.
