# EPUBCheck OPF-015: unneeded manifest property, how to fix it

Source: https://epubcc.com/epubcheck/opf-015/ (updated 2026-11-04)

EPUBCheck OPF-015 is an error message: “The property "…" should not be declared in the OPF file.” A manifest item declares a property that the document does not actually use, such as svg, mathml or scripted. EPUB asks for these properties to match the content, so a stale one is reported as an error.

- Official message (EPUBCheck 5.4.0): The property "%1$s" should not be declared in the OPF file.
- Default severity: Error

## Typical causes

- Properties copied from a template manifest that declared them for every chapter.
- The SVG, MathML or script was removed from the document, but the property stayed.
- A tool that adds properties by guessing from file names instead of reading the content.

## How to fix it

1. Read the property and the file EPUBCheck names.
2. Open the document and confirm it really contains no such element (svg, math or script).
3. Remove the property from that manifest item, keeping any other properties it has.

## When it's not this

If the document uses the feature and the property is missing, that is OPF-014.
