# What happens to my files after converting a PDF to EPUB?

Source: https://epubcc.com/answers/what-happens-to-my-files/ (updated 2026-11-04)

EpubCC deletes the EPUB 1 hour after your first download, or 24 hours after it's ready, whichever comes first; the original PDF is deleted as soon as the whole book is converted, or 2 hours after its last conversion. Your files are never published or used for training, and “Delete now” removes everything immediately.

## The timeline

- Unfinished upload: 60 minutes after the last piece arrived.
- Your original PDF: As soon as the whole book is converted, or 2 hours after its last conversion.
- The EPUB: 1 hour after your first download, or 24 hours after it's ready, whichever comes first.
- Everything: Immediately, when you press “Delete now”.

## What you see

- Every conversion page shows a live countdown to the moment the EPUB is deleted.
- “Delete now” removes the EPUB, the original PDF and any other conversion of the same book at once.
- If you ask for an email when a conversion is ready, the address is used for that message and then deleted.

## What we never do

- Publish your files or show them to anyone else.
- Use them to train models, or add them to our benchmark, without your explicit permission.
- Send your file names, emails or the content of your files to our error reporting.
